Inspo for a very vintage Halloween
Share
Make your spooky season a little more sustainable by shopping secondhand this month. Find pieces that you can wear outside of Halloween to make sure you get your money's worth and to slow down their environmental impact a bit.
Scary fact:
In the United States alone, around 35 million Halloween costumes are discarded annually, adding approximately 2,000 tons of plastic waste to landfills. Most of these costumes are made from non-recyclable materials, like polyester, which can take between 20 and 200 years to decompose. That level of waste is equivalent to about 83 million plastic bottles and reflects a broader issue with holiday-related consumerism
Here are some of my favorite pieces from our website that would make excellent inspiration for the best costume ever.
This vintage 1990s St John dress is a great staple in a Beetlejuice-themed costume, but you can wear it again and again -- to art galas, date night, Taco Bell, you name it.
Paired with a black skirt, yellow tights, and chunky black boots, this Diane Von Furstenberg top lends itself brilliantly to a taxi costume. Cute, functional, and ready to drive folks crazy.
This lovely, layered flowy black dress is a beautiful staple for year-round formal events, but it's especially versatile for your halloween fit. You can be a witch, a dark angel, a goth pixie, black cat, and so much more.
Be a boho Woodstock hippie in this handmade 1970s top. Pair with some short shorts or big bell bottoms, and you're all set. Plus, you'll have a headstart on festival season -- so go ahead and start saving for tickets.
This deadstock 1950s red dress (with belt!) is another great choice for a ton of costumes -- from Dolly Parton to Little Red Riding Hood and so much more. Then, take it beyond the holiday and rock it at concerts, picnics, and random "what do i wear??" events.
An early 90s Gunne Sax black velvet dress may be just what you need for that vampy vampire costume or your Morticia moment. You can wear it again at the winter holiday parties with some festive accessories and a little scarf.
Here's a great little deadstock prom dress to use as the base for your dead prom queen costume. She needs a good steaming, but that only adds to the ghastly ghostly vibes in her current state. After spooky season, this little lady can be paired with a short cardigan and transform into your date-night staple.
If fancy dresses, aren't your vibe. We've got a couple spooky t-shirts in stock that would also be great for those impending Halloween parties.
