Thrift Haul: NYC Edition

Summary

I spent the whole day thrifting and vintage shopping in New York with my friend Laura (the vintage pussycat), and we had such a good time that my grand plan to film cute content of the two of us completely did not happen. So instead of a hangout video, you get a haul. And friends, it is a big one.

Most of this came home with me for five to ten dollars a piece, with a couple of splurges I refuse to feel bad about. Lots of no-brand 60s and 70s dresses with hand finishings, a suspicious number of West German tags, and one onesie that is going to need an Oxi Clean situation.

• A $25 David Brown barkcloth maxi from Beacon's Closet and a $25 Anne Fogarty 50s full-circle-skirt dress from L Train
• Mr. Mort of California, a $10 Stacy Ames wool dress, a Marty Petite, and a checkerboard onesie with crotch snaps
• $10 Wranglers made in Mexico with rivets on the back pockets that I still need to date properly
• The vintage Lanvin skirt I walked away from, because $75 is $75

Hi. Hello. I spent the day today thrifting and vintage shopping with my friend Laura, the vintage [ __ ] cat, and we had the absolute best time. So good, in fact, that my plans of recording fun content of us together did not happen. Instead, what I got for you is a thrift haul. Hell yeah. Let's [ __ ] go. Here's what I got today.

Many things. Oh, I'm going to save these for last. Okay, first right up, we've got this from the '90s Olympics, Blue Sky. I couldn't not get it because I thought about all of the funny ways in which it could be worn. Uh, it's got the little Blue Sky International here. It's probably not worth anything and I don't even care. It's just so silly. I needed to have it.

Then we've got this cutie patootie here. She has ner a damn brand tag in her. She's definitely 70s. We've got cool interfacing, a nice crossover, these beautiful colors, and she seems like she's a good size, too. This feels like at least 24 pips a piss. So amped about that one. A nice lightweight. I am surprised that there's no brand tags. However, look at all of there's just hand finishings. So like someone worked very hard on this and I love it.

Then we've got this little sweetheart. She is a Marty. Petite. Petite. Petite. This looks exactly like the rust label to me. And I wonder if maybe they're related. This one is precious. You got your little [ __ ] bow, the ties. You got like a fit and flare vibe happening. Um, and then also a belt. She's long sleeves. She has a vintage tag size 12, which makes her like a Look at that. Another weird like zit thing on my body. I am allergic to myself, I think.

Then we've got this cutie and she is so good. We have a metal back zipper. It's on the ultra zipper. It is gorgeous. It's in such good shape. I don't see any brand tags in her, but she came from a section that had a lot of like West Germany made items, and I feel like that's probably what her origin story is as well. Um, her finishings are nice, but there's just no tags or info anywhere on her. I thought maybe they might even have hidden it between layers, but they didn't. It did still have a tag on it from somewhere, but I don't know like where. I don't know what that means. But that's a thing.

And then we have scoot my stuff out of the way. This little girl here, she came with a belt. And um I'm sure you are as charmed as I am. This one fashion of something. I don't know. Uh, German, I think, right? That feels German to me. Uh, anyway, this is her. Another like good size. I really love these details here. Like this part kind of sticks up and it gives you a sharp and makes it feel like this is a layer under it. And you may think that's its own. I like it.

This one is great for if you have like a Judge Judy cosplay or something, maybe you need to get a little puritanical on some hoes. Uh, she has the paper tag inside. She was made by Stacy Ames. I spent a whopping $10 on her. And she is wool. She is unlined. Oh, I really thought that was about to be a hole, but it wasn't. She's cute. Tiger you. She's definitely gonna be like 60s. She's on the safety line zipper. Even has these cute little covered buttons. Love to see it.

Then we have this cutie patootie. Pretty sure it's actually a kid shirt. Um, didn't have any brand tags in her. Looks like it was done on a home sewing machine, but well done. I like it and I'm going to wear it even if it is a child's top. Real 60s with that fun like Indian inspired collar. India was like having a moment in American fashion in the 70s and I feel like we don't talk about that enough. It was good.

Uh this one is no brand tag polyester. This is one that Laura grabbed and she ended up putting back and I was like are you sure you want to put that back? And then when she was sure I took it. Um she's good. She's nice. She's lined. She's like great quality. Nice finishings throughout. Um, and then you just have the like German language tag with no brand. Kind of like an Easter egg, but like it's an Easter egg was very cool.

Okay, keeping the party going. I'm sorry. I'm sorry about this [ __ ] onesie. How sick is it? You've got checkerboard. You've got flowers. You've got crotch snaps. We're not going to do a closeup of this crotch, but believe you me, it's going to need an oxy clean.

Then we got this sweet little dress. She's more like brown than I normally go, but I really liked her vibe. I really just like the I don't know. There's something nice and soft and warm about her, and I like that. Very polyester. Uh there's some hand finishings. No brand tags. Definitely made at home. Love it. Oh my gosh. And look, here's the edge of the fabric. So, you know, it was an at home piece. I wonder if we can see who made the fabric on it. No, it doesn't have the name, but I'll find out at some point. Fret not, my friend. If there are secrets to be told, your girl's going to find them. But not right now, I guess.

Okay, then I have these pants. I'm hoping they fit me and that I can keep them. They're just some sick wide leg 70s happy legs junts. I can't tell if they're going to be too big or too small because that's how it goes sometimes. They have a talon closure. They got belt loops. No pockets on the butt. High waist. Classic.

This one looks newer, but I do not think it is. It's got built-in belt loops. It's fully lined. She zips up the back. This has been hemmed at some point to make it shorter. It's just so good and swishy and beautiful. And I'm looking at it from far away and I just love the way all of these colors and patterns work together to like make bigger flowers almost. Seems really, really cool to me.

We got this gal. I mean, y'all, there's still this much more left. I think we went to three different stores, maybe four. We really had a good time. Uh, this one's another 70s like German made one, fully lined. I almost got a vintage Lanvin skirt, Lanvin if you're from Tennessee. Uh, but they wanted 75 on it and it was just too much for me to do. I could not spend $75, but I could spend five to 10 on all of these, which I did.

This one's so pretty. And again, like she's fully lined. She has a nylon zipper, but all the good little like this is a tab to hold on to while you zip. It's just thoughtful design. It's like people used to give a [ __ ] about what they made, you know?

Then we got Oh my god, I forgot about this one. So, this was at Beacon's Closet. All of the things that were neatly folded, I think, came from there. This is a David Brown tag size small maxi. She's barkcloth. She has these sick cuffs that are pinned into place. I mean, it's just Damn fine. Here's your David Brown tag. I paid $25 for this. And it was worth it. I love I might wear this home someday.

This top, these aren't even colors I normally wear, but I really liked it. Uh this one's Mcron. It's a medium. It was made in Taiwan. You got the sharp dagger collar and then this fun novelty print with just different scenes from around the world. I like I like it. Shut up. I'm just kidding. Don't shut up. You do like it. I know you do. And if you don't, you like it for me cuz you support me in your kind.

This skirt is full of secrets we'll never know. She's polyester. She's like the perfect knee length. Just run to the table. No big deal.

Oh, I picked this one up because JR always grabs. He always grabs like vintage Disney, so I figured I would get this one in his honor. I'm sure he'll end up selling it within a week to one of y'all.

This one I got for me, I think. I kind of forgot I got it. It's made by Mr. Mort. Here's the tag. Maybe. There you go. Mr. Mort of California. I paid 15 bucks for this one, but I mean, so stinking cute. And this is a pattern that I can steal, too. We can trace and make these for ourselves as a family.

This dress came from Okay, this was at L Train. This is an Anne Fogarty and she is very 50s. Look at this full circle skirt. She feels cotton. Here's her inside tag. 25 on this one, which is definitely more than I would normally pay. USA Talon zipper. But even my cheap ass knew that this one was special and needed to come home. The like this cut is so good on the neckline. And how did they keep it down? They just did a little bit of um like interfacing. Is that what we call that? What is it called? I forgot the word. But you know when you use the fabric from the outside on the inside to hold it all in place. It's that.

Uh I got these shorts cuz none of my shorts fit me right now. And I like that they look like a skirt, but then they're shorts. They're also vintage and stretchy and made by I don't know but in the USA into that they've got to be like 70s or 80s cuz the stretch is too good for them to be older.

And then this I got specifically because I have the exact same one at home already. I'm almost positive and I'm also almost positive that it's a child size. So I'm going to have like a mommy and me situation. This one is a Sylvia and it is a tag size eight, which means it's also teensy tiny, but it's gorgeous.

And then the last thing I got, maybe the most amazing thing. Okay, they're Wranglers, which you're like, "Yeah, they're great." They were $10. They are made in Mexico, so they're not super old. But are you ready? Are you Are you [ __ ] ready? So, uh I couldn't not get these. They're so good. They are a size 31 36. You know, maybe they are older than I thought though because they've got the rivets on the butt and I thought they stopped doing that. No, cuz they're made in Mexico of US fabric. They probably have a date on them. I don't remember how to tell their dates, actually. I'll have to do some research. So, they're not super old, but they are super fantastic.

And that, I do believe, is everything I got today. And also, the sunglasses I thought I lost, I did not lose. I have them. They're right here. Thanks. I love you. Goodbye. Oh, wait. No, not goodbye.
